Support FAQs

What kind of printer do I need?

Printers have come a long way in their print quality in the past few years.  Even better, the cost of high-qualilty, small office printers has dropped tremendously as well.  Unless your current printer is a newer inkjet or laser printer, we recommend investing some time researching new printers before purchase one.

We make this recommendation based on several things: quality and cost. The quality of your menus says a lot about your business. Poor printing, faded colors, cropped printing areas are as distracting as poorly dressed staff, or a sloppily prepared dinner.  Your menu is a reflection of you, your restaurant, and your food. You need to make a good impression and one of the first impressions you make, is your menu.

As mentioned, good quality desktop printers are relatively inexpensive. Photo quality inkjets are commonly under $100. Color laser printers can be found for under $400 or less, and we recently purchased a new, name brand, office quality, color laser for just over $200.00 including shipping.  This is often less than a single commercial print run of menus!  While a color laser printer does represent a greater initial investment than an inkjet, the cost-per-page is substantially less than with an inkjet. For a restaurant that will need a larger number of menus printed -- either through sheer numbers of menus needed, or through frequent menu changes -- a laser printer will save a restaurant more money in the long run.

On the other hand, inkjet printers have evolved to where many print in spectacular colors and with photographic quality. For a smaller restaurant that don't need a lot of menus, a good-quality inkjet is a good investment.

Do some research.  Visit your local computer or office supply store and have them print some samples from different printers. If you haven't done so recently, you may be in for a surprise.
