What can I do when people leave negative reviews at online restaurant review sites?

 


With online yellow pages, tourist/travel, or dining out websites that feature reviews of cafes and restaurants, usually when people unfairly leave negative reviews, there is not much that you can do, although there are a few sites that will require you to pay a hefty fee in order to remove or hide a negative review.  With these online review sites, you really have no control.

 

Unfortunately, restaurant review sites like Yelp often posts anonymous rants by disgruntled customers because they were not happy with a particular dish or because they had to wait a little longer than they expected.  No one enjoys less than excellent food or service, but no restaurant deserves to be punished with a one-star rant, whenever it happens.


Even worse, some successful and popular restaurants have become the target of unscrupulous competitors who may feel justified in posting a bad review on these restaurant review sites, because they feel you are taking business away from them.  If they feel that their job security or business may suffer because their customers are patronizing a competitor's restaurant, they may resort to unethical business tactics like this.
